It’s December already! Berthon Spain has seen their Caribbean fleet off in fine fettle. Now the weather is turning, we are busy tucking up our guardiennage fleet for the winter months.
For many of our clients, their pride and joy has looked after them well all summer so it’s time to return the favour by cherishing her with some much needed TLC. One of the most important aspects of guardiennage is ensuring that the yacht is well prepared for the winter storms that roll in; yes that’s right we are not always in shorts and Raybans! Mike Barnes, our Guardiennage Captain, has been making sure all the ground lines are super tight, fenders are in all the right places and that there is no risk of our yachts’ rigs colliding with their neighbours.
We are also taking sails off so that they can be cleaned and serviced and then dry stored for the winter. This means that they come out fresh and white for the new season ahead and at the same time any small repairs can be made.
There is little need for any major winterisation to the systems when your yacht is in Spain as it doesn’t get cold enough for anything to freeze here, but we do get a reasonable amount of rain so it’s never a bad idea to pop a dehumidifier on board, and we do this for all of our clients.
The winter is a great time to make exciting improvements and upgrades to your yacht as well as carrying out the usual service work. This winter we have many projects booked in;
Apart from this, we have a production line of yachts coming out of the water for antifoul and polishing and any other yard works that might be required. We have around 12 yachts already booked in for this next year and our guys are like an F1 pit crew with this, but they smile more!
We give our clients essential guidance about their yacht’s winter works. We make sure that it is all completed for the next season in good time and never at the last minute. Owners often don’t see their yacht for 6 months whilst the team are piling on the winter care, and when they come back to her full of the joys of Spring, it is our focus to exceed expectations.
