Berthon Spain are ignoring the doom mongers and getting ready for the sailing season in Mallorca in 2021!
Like most of us I have been reading the papers too much recently looking for someone to tell me when we will be able to get all our clients back and out on their yachts. So far, for our UK clients this remains a little frustrating, so I thought we should look at all the reasons we have to be cheerful!
Right now, the number of people with Corona Virus in Mallorca and the Balearics is at an exceptionally low level and we are enjoying many freedoms of movement again. The sun is shining, spring is in full swing and all the yachts we look after under guardiennage are emerging one by one from the shipyard and Berthon’s shed, shining like new pennies!
Yes, I know there is a lot of talk of new variants and R rates and second waves, but the fact is we now have vaccines which are being delivered across the globe and the UK has set a fine example on how quickly this can be done. That as far as I am concerned, does mean we will all be going yachting in the Mediterranean this summer, whether we start in May or August.
Our team are flat out with antifouling, polishing hulls and superstructures, replacing anodes, applying PropSpeed, changing cutlass bearings, putting sails back on, moving yachts back to berths, servicing engines, treating Teak decks and general yacht cleaning. On top of this our painters are in the midst of a full repaint on a Gunfleet 58 and we have an Oyster 575 whose rig is soon coming out to be brought back to the Berthon shed for painting.
Berthon’s shed is full of Windy motor yachts, stacks of yacht tenders, 2 shipping containers from one of the J Class yachts and much more. All these yachts are getting the Rolls Royce treatment from our service team.
We are also in the middle of a large Reckmann installation on a Hanse 588 so that the owner can change from slab reefed mainsail to in boom furling. More on this one to follow soon as the project will shortly be complete. One of our Gunfleet 58’s has had a Webasto heating system installed, and we are refitting the engine room on a Discovery 68.
So clearly, there is still a lot going on in the yachting world here in Mallorca and I know we are not the only company who is very busy. Therefore, my advice would be to ignore the negative press, this storm is coming to an end and calm, azure waters are ahead. It is also worth keeping in mind that Mallorca enjoys fabulous weather often all the way up to Christmas so if we do have a later start then all is not lost!
Do let us know if we can help you prepare your yacht for a wonderful, sunny 2021 season in our lovely waters.
Berthon Spain are look forward to seeing you all soon.
