Berthing in Palma de Mallorca & How Berthon Spain can Help

Berthon Spain’s MD Andrew Fairbrass on the cost of berthing in Palma de Mallorca.

Berthing in Palma Mallorca

I’ve been in Palma for over 10 years now and I’m pleased to call Mallorca my home and of course the main base of Berthon Spain. The island offers an abundance of beautiful spots to sail your yacht, the cuisine is exceptional, the people are lovely, and it is easy to fly in from most of Europe.

I also think it is fair to say that Palma has an almost unrivalled number of high-quality marine service companies. I like the fact that STP (Servicios Técnicos Portuarios) is an open yard to all companies as I strongly believe the competition drives the quality of service up and keeps prices sensible.

The marinas here are fantastic and the staff professional and friendly. With all these positives I fully understand this is going to make mooring costs on the high side and most yacht owners have always been amenable to that. However, in the last three years I have watched these prices go through the roof, in some cases they have doubled. Sadly, many yachts have unsurprisingly left or been put off coming in the first place as a result of these high prices.

However, fear not as we have recently started to see a big shift, as it seems marina owners and managers have come to their senses. The rates that Berthon Spain have negotiated already this year are some 30% less than the previous year. Marina Port de Mallorca, which is one of our favourites, has been doing everything they can to accommodate our existing clients and to help us attract new ones.

Berthon Spain has a dedicated staff member tasked with finding berths at the right price for you, so please do not hesitate to get in touch if you need a berth either here in Mallorca or on the mainland. Not only are we whizzes at negotiating for you but we also know which marinas offer the best shelter, security and of course the best restaurants!

Our guardiennage team are in every marina in Palma, Club Náutico El Arenal and Port Calanova Marina on a daily basis, checking and tending to the yachts we have under our yacht care. They are best placed to talk you through the pros and cons of each location and always available for a friendly chat.
